Having grown up in Northern Michigan–nature is solace. It is a significant part of why I transferred to NMU. I do not feel like "myself" when not surrounded by a body of water and some greenery. Having moved to an urban landscape last year, I yearn for the luxury of being enclosed in nature.

This fiber-art piece conveys the comfort I feel when outdoors. The design depicts wildlife that is native to Northern Michigan: black bear, perch, pike, herring gulls, American black duck, and, of course, pine trees. It is also comforting because it is soft to touch. Intended to be displayed in my home either as a rug or a wall hanging–no matter where I locate it, it will provide comfort and solace.
