“Bound” is a series of cyanotype images printed onto fabric and embellished with embroidery. It focuses on the traditions passed down throughout the women my family and women in history. The images are of the women in my family, they are connected through thread as they are connected through blood.

Sewing has been passed on throughout my family and has a rich past of being seen as a women’s hobby. Embroidery was also seen as a way to embellish the clothes they had sewn. The flowers that are embroidered onto the images are embellishing the piece as well. The flowers all have symbolism tied to them and correlate with the women included. Roses signify love, passion and admiration, I chose to include roses as this is how I feel about my mother and grandmothers. I hope people can relate to my work and maybe it will remind them of the traditions within their own family.

“Bound” is an exploration of my family’s history and the traditions it upholds. I come from a family of female seamstresses and this is my way of sharing our traditions.
