24 years ago I left Northern Michigan University and my studies behind. This past year a decision was made to complete my education; to finally finish something I started. My world has changed and so has my outlook on photography. Life happens and there are no regrets.

After a five-year period of extreme darkness of love and loss, which would be considered the dark night of my soul, I am emerging a strong warrior of life and becoming centered with who I am. Most of life’s tragic events happened in a small window of time, the loss of my mother to cancer, the passing of my younger brother, the beginning and ending of an abusive marriage and health issues. This duration not only ripped my being wide-open it also produced some of the greatest moments of strength, growth, and transformation. Through self-discovery, constant reflection and what was learned in native ceremonies, I have been shown acceptance with duality that has helped guide me and find balance within.

Daily life has often been a struggle. A challenge was created to start a daily practice of taking my iPhone and photographing every single day during the last 9 months finding beauty and joy in everyday grace. Rather than pursuing the images, this process allowed them to unfold in front of me. My personal selfies were included in this challenge to bear witness to the changes taking place around and within me.

iPhonography is a new love for me and it is the only tool needed. There were no apps, filters or manipulation used. The prints are raw and authentic but show gratitude and blessings. The intent behind this collection was to be reminded that life is good and is meant to be lived every moment. This process has been cathartic and has made me more fully present in life. Life is short and precious. Be happy. Be present. Be in the moment. Be in the flow. This is the hope for you as well.
