The School of Art and Design has six scholarships available to high school seniors planning on attending the School of Art & Design at Northern Michigan University. Please review the eligibility requirements below before applying. The scholarships are competitive and awarded on merit. Students must comply with the eligibility and application requirements. Awards are dependent on the availability of funding.

Eligibility

  • High school senior graduating in June
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or ACT composite score of 19
  • High School Transcript Required
  • Teacher Recommendation
  • Portfolio of 6-10 images saved as one PDF file

Preferred, but not required.
Portfolio should consist of 6-10 pieces. Please include image information with each artwork (Title, Year, Media, any other relevant information). Portfolio must be saved as PDF and named as such: lastname-port.pdf. Tip: You can use both Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to produce PDF files. *If you are submitting a video as part of your portfolio, please include a link to your video on the web (suggested sites: youtube or vimeo). Along with the link you should include any relevant information such as Title, Year, etc. If your PDF is too large to upload, please visit ilovepdf.com which does a fantastic job of compressing PDFs without losing quality.

If your portfolio exceeds the upload limit, please submit a link to your work here (e.g., from Dropbox, Google Drive, or a personal website). Be sure to double-check that the link is public or that sharing permissions are set so we can view your portfolio.
A letter of recommendation from a teacher is required but can either be uploaded here directly or emailed to art@nmu.edu directly from the writer.
