About

Two Days of Play and Inspiration!

October 19-20, 2023

Art and Design courses are suspended for two days
and replaced with a huge variety of short workshops.

Break the Routine

Take a break from your regular Art/Design courses and try something new. Which sessions you attend is entirely up to you (as long as it fits your schedule)... no graduation requirements are dictating what you can take.

Interact

There are minimal or no pre-requisites for all sessions, so you can collaborate with (and learn from) students from different concentrations and different academic levels. Just sign-up for the session(s) you want to attend in the Art/Design lobby or office (ART 159) when sign-up begins.

Have Fun!

Art and Design should be fun. The process is often a more rewarding experience than the product. The sessions are short and there is no evaluation/grading so you have nothing to lose by trying something new. (Seats are limited in most sessions, so sign-up early.)

FAQ

  • How do I sign-up?

There will be a sign-up sheet in the Art/Design lobby for each session for the first few days. Sign-up will move to the AD office (ART 159) when the initial rush is over. If there are slots available, just write your name on the appropriate page.

  • When can I sign-up?

Sign-up sheets will be available starting Wednesday, October 11. Remember that seats are limited in most sessions, so sign-up early.

Sign-up sheets will be available during normal AD Office hours (generally 8am-5pm M-F).

  • What do I need to bring?

Any materials required for a session are listed in the session description (in the Schedule section above). Listed materials are required for particpation in a session and are not optional. Every effort has been made to keep the cost of materials to a minimum.

If you do not bring the materials required for a session to the session, you will not be allowed to participate in the session.

  • Do I still need to go to class?

Art and Design courses are suspended for Thursday and Friday.

However, you must still attend all non-Art/Design courses. This may limit which sessions you can attend. Be sure the sessions you sign-up for do not conflict with your non-Art/Design courses.

  • Can I leave a few minutes early to get to a class?

If absolutely necessary, you can leave a session early (10-15 minutes) to get to a class or work. Please inform the instructor of a session when you arrive that you will be leaving a bit early.

Do not sign-up for a session that you would require you to arrive late. Most sessions will include critical information or safety review in the first 15 minutes.

  • What if I skip a session? What is the attendance policy?

Well, to start with, you should be signing up for sessions that you WANT to attend... so why would you skip it?

If you are not intending to attend a session, do not sign up for the session. With limited seats available, you may be taking a slot from someone who really does want to attend the session.

  • How many sessions can I take?

You can initally sign up for two sessions. If there are still seats available on October 17, you may sign up for more sessions.

  • I am not an art major. Can I participate?

If you are not an art/design major but are enrolled in at least one art/design course of any nature (studio, art history, foundations), you may participate.

  • I am an art/design major but not enrolled in a foundations or studio course this semester. Can I participate?

If you are an art/design major but are not enrolled in an art/design course, you may still participate.

  • What if there is a snow day?

If there is a snow day and classes are cancelled, any AD Scramble sessions for that day are cancelled. The sessions will not be re-scheduled. Sorry.

  • What if a session I want to take is full?

Sessions can fill up early so the best opportunity to get the sessions you want is to sign-up early. If a session is full, you will have to find a different session.

(You could check the sign-up sheet at a later date to see if the session size has been increased, if anyone has dropped the session, or contact the instructor of the session to inquire to whether the session size could be increased.)
