Scholarship Information

The School of Art and Design has several scholarships available for the new freshman and several available for returning Art & Design majors. Please review the eligibility requirements below. The scholarships are competitive and awarded on merit. Students must comply with the eligibility and application requirements. Results are posted in April for the following academic year.

Returning Art & Design Majors Scholarships

 

Art & Design High School Scholarship
[formerly Great Lakes]
Four Scholarships - $1000 EACH

Eligibility

  • Recipient must currently be a high school senior
  • A high school senior graduating in June
  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or ACT composite score of 19

Application Materials Required

  • A teacher recommendation
  • A high school transcript
  • A student portfolio of 5-10 slides, cd rom, or web site
  • Postage paid return envelope

Due Date Thursday APRIL 10th, 2008
Note: Any materials arriving after Thursday APRIL 10th, 2008 will not be considered.

Returning Art & Design Majors Scholarships

Please check the list below for requirements, you may be eligible to apply for more than one scholarship. Paperwork is Due THURSDAY APRIL 10th, 2008 in Daric Christian's Mail Box at the Art & Design Office. If required, the portfolio work is due 9:00am - 12:00 noon on TUESDAY, April 15th, 2008 delivered to the 1st Floor Workroom (RM 173) in the Art & Design Building.

Art & Design Undergraduate Scholarships
Scholarships - $800 EACH

Eligibility

  • Recipient must have completed one semester in the Art Department
  • Recipient must be majoring in Art & Design with 12 cr per semester
  • A student portfolio of six to ten artworks, powerpoint or website
  • Must have an Overall GPA of 3.0
  • Resume listing Art & Design Classes with Grades

Application Form Due THURSDAY APRIL 10th, 2008

Work Due 9:00am - 12:00pm TUESDAY, April 15th, 2008

Note: Any portfolio arriving after 12:00 noon Tuesday, April 15 will not be considered.

Lake Superior Art Association Scholarship
One Scholarship - $200 Maximum, Award based on earnings

Eligibility

  • Recipient must be a resident of Marquette City or County
  • Enrolled as a full time student at Northern Michigan University
  • 2nd Semester Freshman or Sophomore majoring in Art & Design
  • A student portfolio of six to ten artworks, powerpoint or website
  • Must have a GPA of 2.7 and ACT of 19
  • Must be enrolled in at least one course in their area of concentration
    and provide name of supporting faculty member

Bobbi Ameen Art Education Memorial Scholarship
One Scholarship - $1000 maximum, award varies based on earnings


Eligibility

  • Enrolled as a full time student at Northern Michigan University
  • Recipient must have completed one semester in the Art Department
  • A student portfolio of six to ten artworks, powerpoint or website
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0
  • Must be of junior, senior status working on Certification
    in Art K-12th grade majoring in art education

One Scholarship - $1000 maximum, award varies based on earnings


Eligibility

  • Resident of Marquette City or County, Michigan
  • Enrolled as a full time student at Northern Michigan University
  • 2nd Semester Freshman or Sophomore majoring in Art & Design
  • A student portfolio of six to ten artworks, powerpoint or website
  • Must have a GPA of 2.7 or ACT Score of 19
  • Enrolled in at least one course in your studio area

One Scholarship - varies based on earnings

Offered only on odd numbered years

Eligibility

  • Resident of Upper Peninsula, Michigan
  • Enrolled as a full time student at Northern Michigan University
  • Enrolled as Elementary Education and Art Major
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0
  • Must Demonstrate Financial Need
